  1. I’m getting more comfortable with your program each day and seems to be what I’ve been looking for so far, a stable Linux application with usable features such as exporting options, the full screen is pretty cool too. Love the Mise en sce’ne for keeping track of Characters, Places and Items in each scene.
I’d like to donate to the project so development can continue but I don’t see where or how.

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Hello Earl,

Thank you for your nice comment ๐Ÿ™‚ The new Plume is still in active development. Well… when the everyday life allows me to write a few lines of codes.

I confess I concentrated my efforts on the program and not on this website. So donations isn’t implemented, but thanks to you I think now would be good to add a way. If you have suggestions, feel free to share !

And please, use a backup system with your project files. Better be safe than sorry…

      Amicalement,
      Cyril Jacquet

  2. I am growing fond of this program for organizing my book into chapters and scenes. I also find the notes and synopsis for each chapter invaluable as I jot down thoughts and ideas along the drafting process.
Some of the issues I’ve had is that it has crashed on me more than once, and the workbench does not remember my preferred setup for the width of the different columns. However, my main problem is how it reads when you write. I like that keeps my cursor at the middle of the screen, allowing me to see the immediate paragraphs above and below as I write, but it is having some serious issues when you get to the bottom of the chapter and try to edit. It is constantly trying to keep the cursor in the middle of the screen, but finds that it can’t because there is not enough chapter left.
I was originally going to leave this as a review in the software center, but when I got here and discovered that it is only an alpha version and a new version is right around the corner, I thought I would wait and post my thoughts here instead. I hope they may be of some use to you, although you were probably aware of these issues already. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hello Kristine,

Thank you for leaving this review. User input help us see problems we overlook. Like we don’t see our own mistakes despite reading our novel again and again, and we need someone else to point them to us…
Plume Creator knows some recurring bugs, I’m very sorry. The cursor in the middle of the screen bug was fixed, then appeared again… Workbench was a work in progress, it’s very tricky to manage the cells : I hope that I’ll implement better this feature in the new Plume.
The new version, being rebuilt from the ground up, will answer some of the most annoying behaviors (which annoy me as well ! ). Moreover, it will be more stable. If you have suggestions, you can send me an email.
For your novels, please use a backup system like Dropbox where you can fetch an earlier version of your files.

Cyril Jacquet, lead Plume Creator developer

  3. I tested Plume Creator under Windows 10, and it ran stably. I think this is a useful tool for authors, especially for those who write complex works.

But there seem to be some bugs, like described by other commentators. In my case, the positioning of the column bars was not saved, nor the pinning of the menu above the text.

It would be great if I could set visible column bars, maybe as a thin light grey line.

Anyway, Plume Creator looks quite promising, and I am looking forward to the next version.

    Kind regards,
    Torsten

    1. Hello Torsten,

Yes, I think I can add some color to separate cells. I’ll try to save the column position, without promise. Thank you for your input !

  4. Actually, I couldn’t understand is this program good for writing or not, because I write in my own language, different to standard, and the problem is hidden there. My language is Russian and I simply can’t edit any text in this program, because I can’t paste any text in Russsian – I just see zeroes instead of normal cirillic symbols. Typing in Russian works normal. Hope you’ll eliminate all errors and we’ll see great novel writing program at the finish.

    1. Hello Tasia,

I think the matter is text encoding. Plume tries to translate your local cyrillic encoding in UTF-8. Well, it’s not working in your case, I see. I don’t know how to fix it right now, but other could. I hope to find some fix.

  5. I have installed Plume Creator on a Ubuntu 16.04 machine, and it seems to be just the software I’ve been looking for. I’ve been a user of Scrivener for a couple of years now (for scientific writing), but unfortunately the Linux version is now longer being developed.
I’ve written a blog post about Scrivener a while ago, and now I’ve added an update with a recommendation for Plume Creator: https://jochen-plikat.com/2014/10/17/strickst-du-noch-oder-puzzlest-du-schon/ (in German)
Thanks a lot for your effort, this is a great project!

  6. soy nuevo escribeindo pero si de alguna manera pudiera colaborar para la traduccion a espaรฑol latino, me encantaria participar.

    1. Hello Omar,

Thank you for your offer ! I’m unsure of which trend of Spanish you are talking about : Spanish from South-America ? Can you give me the language code ? (ex: fr_FR)

      Cordialement,
      Cyril Jacquet

  7. I’ve been testing Plume with some work with good results. After looking for an editor in Linux to write text organized into different levels I’ve found Plume the most convenient. Congratulations for your work and I hope we can see and enjoy a new release soon.

  8. I’m using Linux Mint and it’s not working well for me.

    1) The Outliner columns need resizing everytime I open Outliner (they are too squashed and don’t remember previous resizing).
    2) The Mise en Scene doesn’t work. There is no (obvious) way to get a character or other element into the area above. I’ve tried everything I can think of. A scene is selected, and shown in Mise en Scene top area. Right clicking there, right clicking on any character, dragging a character into this space doesn’t work. With dragging it just continues to show the red no entry circle.

The general idea of this software looks great. Is there a working version available?

    1. Hello Mike,

I will add some much needed fixes to the old Plume Creator. Can you give me you version of Qt ? 5.5.1 ?(type qmake -v in the console). I remember this part of the software is tricky and easily breakable. The new Plume will introduce a new system of Character management.

      Cordialement,
      Cyril Jacquet

        1. Yes, you should install it. I recommend you read how to compile a Qt-based software on Qt’s online documentation ๐Ÿ™‚ Other than the basics, prerequisites are written in the readme

  9. Cyril,
I have just begun to use your program and love many of the features. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I am running across 2 problems. I am having difficulty implementing the find/replace feature; either nothing happens or the program crashes. I was hoping to check the manual to see if I am doing something incorrectly, but cannot find one. Keep up the great work.

  10. Hello,

I have been using version .66 in Windows 10 for the past month and it has been working well, however, I have recently run into an issue that has made the program unusable.

A couple of days ago, I opened the program only to find that the project manager and writing area do not appear. The mise en scene shows all the characters, locations and objects related to the project, the project tree (books, acts, chapters, scenes) can be seen in the outliner, the text can be seen in the find and replace window and the project can be exported, but it cannot be edited.

I have seen that this issue has been brought up in the discussion on sourceforge and I have followed your instructions to rename ‘Plume-Creator.ini’ to ‘Plume-Creator.ini_old’, however, this had not fixed the issue. I have also tried uninstalling the program, but this has also not worked.

Is there any way to fix this, because Plume Creator is a great novel writing program and it would be a shame if I can no longer use it.

    1. Hello,

I remember this issue. Just to be sure, have you :
      – closed Plume
      – renamed the config file in xxx_old
      – ran Plume again ?

Sorry for the delay, my new work is keeping my mind away from Plume

      Regards,
      Cyril
